It's December, which means its Christmas! So, we all need to be getting ourselves into gear and buying each other presents! Right? Well, if that’s the case, then why not try to support your local artists and illustrators? From Christmas cards to badges, all the way to trinket trays and t-shirts, your fellow student creators could have what it takes to create that perfect Christmas gift. Not only do you have the privilege to give your loved ones a genuine and unique gift, but you also have the power to support your local creators!
I went along to the Tiny Mart at Boston Tea Party, which was a huge amalgamation of Plymouth creators who had come together to sell their art. Whilst I definitely had my favourite stalls (the one nearest the door was selling the cutest cat creations!) they all had something genuinely incredible to offer.
This blog post comes with a warning though – it is far too easy to spend your pretty pennies at these art gatherings! If you didn't have the opportunity to come along to the event, here are my favourite local illustrators that I just had to support.
Jess has the most fantastic style which instantly blew me away, with nordic, feminine themes, Jess has a style I just can't get enough of. I bought two of her Christmas cards for £6, and they'll be going straight up on my wall as pieces of art. Her soft brush style will really warm your heart this Christmas, as you'll be able to see from her website, here: http://fitzjessillustration.com/. If you need to buy some last-minute Christmas cards, then Jess Fitzpatrick is the person to support!
Otherwise known as Alexandra Brissenden, Illusbee is an illustrator who has been on my radar for quite some time. Having submitted work to my sailing magazine, Voile, I was really keen to buy some of her work at the Tiny Mart. She had a whole host of prints on offer, which I easily could have spent heinous amounts of money on, along with some very adorable badges. I had to make the pink cat badge my own, and I'd implore you to take a look at her incredible and ingenuous style over on her Facebook, here: https://www.facebook.com/alexbrissendenillustration/
Laura's work constantly blows me away, and it's obvious as to why. With her endless imagination, one of Laura's zines will be sure to put a smile on a loved one's face; so why not gift them with their own copy of Pumpkin Spice prints, stickers, or badges? All of these can be found on her Etsy, here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/lauraholeillus. Keep your eyes peeled for the Pumpkin Spice Zine restock!
