Plymouth is constantly growing in terms of student population, and as a city on a whole. There are more and more activities to take part in. For example, a new trampoline park opened this year in Plymouth called ‘Super Tramp’. The best thing to happen to the city for me though – a new surf shop has opened, called ManGo surf shop.
Originally ManGo was a small Warehouse on the outskirts of Plymouth. Two months ago I visited the warehouse with a couple of friends to pick up a new surfboard leash. After mentioning how great and popular an official shop close to campus would be for their company, I was made aware this was actually happening.
I gave my Red Bull business card to the manager, and told them how much I would love to get involved in supporting a launch evening. Plymouth previously had a surf shop which closed down last year. With the culture of Plymouth being based around the sea and water sports, what could be better than a surf shop opening?
I got involved with the surf shop evening launch party bringing free Red Bull and branded speakers to use. I could not anticipate how great the shop would be! They sell not only new and used surfboards, but skateboards and a great range of surf clothing brands. The shop has a TV and games system installed, with sofas in the shop making it not just a shop, but a place to come and chill out with friends. The staff are really friendly and very knowledgeable and experienced in the surf industry.
The owners of ManGo surf also own a surf camp company called ‘Star Surf’, with camps based in Spain and France. I hope to work with Star Surf over the summer in one if their surf camps abroad. I took every opportunity to get involved with this local business ‘ManGo surf’ and will continue to help them for any future events they may wish to run in the shop. I have learnt to take every opportunity that comes your way! If nothing else… you will gain great experience which may open doors to new opportunities.
