What to expect at university?

So, it’s about that time where you are getting offers from your universities! Congratulations to you guys who have yours and to those who haven’t received theirs yet, hold on in there! You’ll get there eventually!!

Now that you have your offers, you’re probably wondering what life at university will be like. As a student who is now in their final year, I’m sure I can give you a pretty accurate insight into what university is like – but don’t hold me to it!

Firstly, its noisy and busy 24/7. But that’s not a bad thing! University has such a social atmosphere and to me, that’s the best thing ever! It makes it so easy to meet new people and get involved. The pace at which everything goes at university is insane… But you just get on with it!

Secondly, university makes you become more responsible. Expect this! Remember now: you need to cook for yourself, clean for yourself, budget for yourself. A great way to do this is to get a diary and plan. By planning, you can save money as you’re not buying food just when you need it – you have planned what you need and how much it will cost! Furthermore, it’ll help make your money go further and will show you whether you need to get a part time job or not. Becoming more responsible comes with time so don’t stress if it goes wrong straight away.

Thirdly, new teaching styles. Every lecturer teaches differently and it can be quite difficult to adapt to all of these different methods of teaching. Don’t worry – you have at least 4 weeks for a module! But at least be prepared and come open minded to all lectures, tutorials and seminars. It will benefit you so much and being open minded is a great soft skill to develop for future graduate positions.

And finally! Enjoy yourself!!!! Make the most of everything that comes with university. Embrace it and focus on what you enjoy. You need to do what makes you happy and make sure if you are unhappy that you are able to fix that. University is a great investment and the degree is just a bonus! I’ve never been happier and university was the best decision of my entire life.

Now that I have finished my passionate rant, if you guys have any questions leave them in the comments box below and I will get back to you all!

Bye for now, Hannah xxxx
