Hi Reader,

After a tough few months, it was time to properly enjoy Plymouth! I kickstarted this new adventure with the UPSU Summer Ball – what a night! A red-carpet entrance for the black ties and cocktail dresses with a great music line up, including Chase & Status and Scouting for Girls. After a fair bit of terrible dancing and shouting along with the songs, I headed over to the Great Gatsby tent for some just-for-fun blackjack. You’d never normally catch me dead in a casino but I actually had a great time trying it out and I’m quite a fan of the film anyway. I even had a go at the rodeo ride-on bull and did pretty well, unfortunately I couldn’t snap any pictures there for fear of losing my phone some 10 metres into a crowd and never seeing it again! It really was an excellent send-off and a good laugh with my friends, Mrs P, and quite a few JΓ€gerbombs.

Hi Reader,

Wow… That’s it, this month I finished up the Master’s course I embarked upon five years ago! Ice cream to celebrate 😊 I’m not going to lie and say it’s been easy, in fact, most of the time I woke up, dragged myself in to uni, worked, dragged myself back to bed, and repeated. A seemingly endless cycle but I am very proud of the finished pieces that I’ve worked on myself and with my team – Emerald Design Solutions. We’ve worked together, eaten together, cried together, and had more than a few gallons of coffee and Monster to keep us going but we’ve produced 700 beautiful pages of design and a marketing video to boot, check it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQn2f6OURx4. I suppose it is the end of an era, but it’s also the start of a new one with many of us being offered work in Bermuda from the project or going travelling before starting our careers here on the mainland.

Hi Reader,

I’ve gotten involved in more ambassador work recently with two outreach events for schools and some more filming. As I was not exposed to engineering in school, I didn’t really understand what it was until I had already started my degree. I strongly believe that students should be introduced to engineering from an early age through interactive workshops and problem-solving activities. These STEM events are bridge building challenges that I designed to teach students about engineering and economics and how the properties of small structures scale up to their life-sized counterparts.

Following some of my work as a student ambassador for the School of Engineering, I’ve found myself involved in a video campaign for new applicants to the university (still not quite sure how!). Over the past month, I’ve been working with the university’s marketing team, or rather, they’ve been working and I’ve been enjoying trips to Dartmoor 😊 Hopefully, in the next month or two, they will be able to stick all the footage together to create a video about my student experience at Plymouth and what I am aiming to do with my degree (I’ll post a link in one of my next blogs when it’s finished!).
